Abstract

Biochar: Understandable Messages for the Masses

Messaging that informs people with the right level of detail is crucial to help audiences connect with ideas. This is particularly true for biochar, which despite having reams of peer-reviewed published research to back it, and a cadre of dedicated and informed evangelists, remains under-utilized and not well-known in general.

This session will be an interactive discussion with the International Biochar Initiative's Communications Director, Wendy Lu McGill, about which audiences the biochar industry seeks to influence and how to reach them better.

We will focus on messaging around helping more people understand and connect with biochar's ability to store carbon, while also creating a highly valorous circular economy for soil health, improving agricultural outputs, creating carbon-negative building materials, remediate and filter contaminated waters, improve livestock emissions as a feed additive, among other expanding uses.
