Green State Biochar is a Vermont company committed to the reduction of biomass waste and the production of high quality biochar. GSB utilizes an innovative machine the company developed – their prototype pyrolysis machine that produces the sequestered carbon product called Biochar. Green State Biochar is a past recipient of a grant from the Vermont Phosphorus Innovation Challenge for their use of biochar in filters they designed and installed on dairy farms to capture phosphorus from agricultural runoff, successfully capturing 90% of the phosphorous filtered. Their Phosphorus Capture System efficiently captures the majority of the phosphorus in agricultural runoff, while producing valuable soil amendment/ fertilizer products for local reuse.
