As governments continue to regulate the handling of biogenic waste streams, the need to provide a policy framework arises that urges leadership towards choosing beneficial decisions for the environment. Alternative centralized solutions are influencing government policy in the handling of many feedstocks, moving away from supporting decentralized biochar production. This discussion looks at the factors that need to be taken into account to influence regulations and policy changes needed for biochar innovations to gain momentum as a viable, environment- and market led solution. Biomass Controls has developed a biochar reactor to convert high-moisture biogenic waste, completely off the grid. This scaled reactor is designed to serve communities of thousands of people each day.
