About:

US Biochar Initiative hosts a discussion forum for the Biochar In The Woods (BIW) sub-group. This group is moderated by Kelpie Wilson and other USBI staff. Kelpie is a prior board member of USBI for over 10 years and owner of Wilson Biochar. In addition to moderating the forum, Kelpie also runs our monthly Biochar In The Woods webinar meetup series which is held the first Wednesday of every month at noon Pacific Time.

Producing and using biochar in the woods helps meet many forest ecosystem and climate mitigation goals. We are all learning from each other as we develop best practices together. In addition to the ongoing discussions found here.

Make sure to check out recordings of the monthly meetings on YouTube. While you are there you can review all the fantastic content provided in the *Biochar In The Woods Webinar And Field Days- Jan - Feb 2022* on YouTube.

General Biochar Forum:

General information and discussion can be found on the primary forum; https://biochar.groups.io

Signing Up:

Please note, you do not have to sign up to view the posted discussions on the web interface.  You can visit the following link to view an archive of activity: https://biochar.groups.io/g/biocharinthewoods

In order to participate in the discussion via email or by posting on the forum website there are a number of steps to follow. You have to be signed up for the biochar.groups.io group first. No exceptions. It is required to join sub-groups.

Step 1: Sign up for Groups.io

Start by signing up for https://groups.io which is a Google service. You can sign up for a new account tied to any email address you have or use an existing Google or Facebook account to sign in.

Step 2:  Join the main biochar group.

Sign up to be a member of the https://biochar.groups.io discussion group by clicking on

the [ + Join This Group ] link.

Step 3:  Configure your email biochar group settings.

Now that you are signed up for biochar.groups.io you can choose if you want to receive emails from the group or not. We encourage you to participate in both but if you are only here for the BIW discussions you simply click on Subscriptions in the upper left of the browser window and select the "No Email" on the Email Delivery preferences for the main group and you will never get an email from the main list. Be sure to hit the Save button at the bottom of the page to establish your settings.

When you do choose to get the group emails you can control when and how you receive them under these settings in Subscriptions. For those that prefer a less busy Inbox, we  highly recommend selecting “Daily Summary” as it tends to keep the email traffic to a minimum.

Step 4:  Sign up for Biochar In The Woods forum.

Now that you have signed up for the main group, time to sign up for the Biochar In The Woods sub-group;  https://biochar.groups.io/g/boicharinthewoods  It is not a publicly listed group so you have to follow this link directly to join.

Step 5: Configure your email BIW group settings..

This allows you to go to the biochar in the wood io site / settings / then under Email Delivery preferences and set your tolerance level for new emails from the group. My personal preference is for the "Daily Summary" to keep my Inbox manageable.

That is it, you have completed the steps and can now view and participate in the discussion.

Remember, you do not have to sign up, you can simply visit the website when you wish to see content for Biochar In The Woods.
