Abstract

Using High-Throughput Tigercat Mobile Pyrolysis to Process Unmerchantable Forest Material into Biochar at Anthony Chabot Park (East Bay Regional Park District)

Roger Smullen CEO & Co-Founder Earth Foundries, Inc. Sustainable Forest Waste Disposal
Presented - February 12th, 2024

This presentation will introduce the mobile pyrolysis operation currently in operation on a hazardous fuels reduction project for the East Bay Regional Park District in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Benefits of pyrolysis processing in place rather than the park district’s traditional disposal methods will be reviewed.  Additionally, the park district is using 100% of biochar produced during the project on park lands and the various use cases will be discussed.  Earth Foundries is a woman-owned, benefit corporation based in the San Francisco Bay Area focused on ending California’s catastrophic wildfire threat and addressing global warming by upcycling forest waste into carbon negative products. Earth Foundries provides sustainable forest waste disposal employing a Tigercat mobile pyrolysis unit to turn unmerchantable forest waste into biochar in the forest.  Roger Smullen is the CEO and Co-founder of Earth Foundries, Inc. and has a BSEE from Cornell University and an MBA from Santa Clara University.
