Are you interested in learning how to make biochar on-site in the woods using a collection of simple technologies? USBI BIW Committee members meet by Zoom every month to share experiences and new developments on this very topic. We're working hard to quantify our impact and get funding for our work. For example, we're field testing an app that helps calculate carbon removal impacts. ADTech, a South African group, has offered the use of their Digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (D-MRV) app to record production parameters and measurements for the purpose of calculating carbon removal impacts.
BIW has been meeting monthly since winter of 2022 when USBI hosted the Biochar in the Woods Webinar and Field Days. The webinar features reports from the US Forest Service, the NRCS, forestry contractors and others. Watch the recorded webinar here.
Members can also participate in an upcoming field day in Utah on April 17 where we will test emissions of the Conservation Burn, Ring of Fire, Big Box Kiln and the Char Boss. The US Forest Service and Utah State are organizing the event. Check for more details about this event as they become available on the Biochar in the Woods discussion group! Join the group here - it's free!.
