The Natural Resources Research Institute (NRRI) is a part of the University of Minnesota research enterprise with a mission to deliver integrated research solutions that value our economy, resources and environment for a sustainable and resilient future. NRRI collaborates broadly with academia, industry leaders, and agency decision makers to identify and address the opportunities to advance the regional natural resource based industries. NRRI’s research portfolio aims to support the economy by discovering value-add resource opportunities, opportunities to reduce waste and lower environmental impacts, and diversifying natural resource markets while maintaining/restoring ecosystem function.

NRRI offers testing services and sponsored research opportunities for development, and commercialization of biochar, including characterization, lab- and pilot-scale production, biomass evaluation, and process development.
