Construction and landscaping industry uses concrete and cut stones for non-load bearing, decorative structures. As we all know, concrete industry contributes to 8% of global emissions. It will be ideal if we can find a solution that not only offsets this carbon but also is made with a negative carbon technology. Making such non-loadbearing times using biochar is in line with this philosophy.
In this poster, we will be presenting a method of using biochar to make tiles that can be used for non-load bearing purposes. The author is experimenting with creating blocks of biochar using natural adhesives like egg yolks and egg whites that are usually discarded in restaurants and that are part of poultry waste. Second method is to use pine tree sap as an adhesive with combination with other additives. Third method is to use expired medicines, tablets and caplets that have ingrained adhesive and coagulation properties. The author will be able to display tiles from all the above methods live and also on his poster. The process of making these tiles will also be briefly explained.
