As founder and CEO of California-based Pacific Biochar, Josiah Hunt has been pioneering methods for putting carbon from the atmosphere safely into the soil using ecological, sustainable agricultural practices since 2011.Pacific Biochar was one of two companies cited in Forbes January 2020 article describing the growing importance of biochar in sequestering CO2 from the atmosphere. Mr. Hunt’s company applies, processes, and distributes a wide variety of biochar for improving soil quality. His work has also taken him to Phu Quoc, a Vietnamese island and tourist destination that was dependent on fresh produce shipments from the mainland due to poor soil quality. A farming corporation engaged Mr. Hunt as technical advisor for building a model production facility that is now producing biochar for soil amendment. As a result of biochar application, island farmers are seeing larger yields and profits. Mr. Hunt is a University of Hawaii graduate with a specialization in Agroecology and Environmental Quality.
